Mortgage in France > Guide > The French regions > Poitou-Charentes

Poitou-Charentes is a region in central western France composed of four departments: Charente, Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres, and Vienne. The regional capital is Poitiers.. Summers are long, and hot (but not unbearably so) while winter is mild, although frosty periods can occur in its more inland areas.
Poitiers is the main city, although the port city of La Rochelle rivals it in economic importance. Farming is vital to its economy which includes wheat, corn, cattle. Industries produce machinery, chemicals, and dairy products.
In La Rochelle you can see the remnants of the old medieval towers and is also home to many music festivals and boat races. Also in the Poitou is the town of Cognac where you can drink the most famous brandy is the world!!
Each of the four departments is within quick and easy reach of an airport offering low-cost flights to and from the UK - Tours, La Rochelle, Nantes, and Poitiers. Train services are also available, and the TGV will take you to Poitiers, La Rochelle, or Angoulême.
