Normandy is located in the west northern region of France and can be split into two sections.
Haute-Normandie (Upper Normandy) consists of the French departments Seine-Maritime, Eure, and Basse-Normandie (Lower Normandy) contains the departments Orne, Calvados, and Manche.
Generally, it has a warm pleasant climate with some rain that accounts for the green and wooded countryside.
The people of Normandy enjoy their food. Norman-French recipes are usually quite simple and using local dairy produce (apples for example), its taste is quite distinct.
An area full of history, it is known to the world as the site of the D-Day battle where “Operation Overlord” took place. In the town of Bayeux, there’s the famous “Tapisserie de Bayeux”, a 70 metres long masterpiece representing the conquest of England by William the Conqueror.
It is also where Monet’s famous garden is situated in Giverny, which inspired many of his paintings. In the seven months that the garden is open, more than 500,000 persons come to visit it.
On its 600km coastline, there is a range of water sports available such as surfing, and sailing..
Access to Normandy is easiest by taking a flight to Paris and then a train to Normandy. You can also take the ferry, and with different operators you can find competitive prices.
From Paris, you can reach Caen in 2 hours by TGV train.
