About the region
Nord-Pas-de-Calais is located in the most northern part of France, with a coastline on the English Channel, and its northern region bordering Belgium. It experiences warm summers, and cool winter with regular rainfall. This is another region of France with a rich history and it is where the famous Battle of Britain took place in the skies above the English Channel.
It is known as France’s Beer Region with breweries who use traditional recipes and local ingredients. The famous French cheese, Maroilles, has been made here since the 12th century.

Flat but never dull
It is a relatively flat region, with important marine networks, heavy industry, and mining. The gentle lowland hills of Nord-Pas-de-Calais make it ideal place for cycling through the countryside.
It is one of the most densely populated areas in France with some 4 million inhabitants. Its capital city is Lille which is the birthplace of the famous French president Charles de Gaulle.

Getting there, and property prices
Due to the Channel opening, there has been an influx of British buyers looking for “a home away from home” in this region and property prices have begun to increase. Also with more competitors such as P&O and Speedferries, one is able to ferry cross the Channel with ease.
