Nord-Pas-de-Calais is located in the most northern part of France, with a coastline on the English Channel, and its northern region bordering Belgium. It experiences warm summers, and cool winters with regular cloudburst. This is another region of France with a rich history.
It is known as France’s Beer Region with breweries who use traditional recipes and local ingredients. The famous French cheese, Maroilles, has been made here since the 12th century.
It is a relatively flat region, with important marine networks, heavy industry, and mining. The gentle lowland hills of Nord-Pas-de-Calais makes it ideal place for cycling through the countryside.
It is one of the most densely populated areas in France. Its capital city is Lille which is the birthplace of the famous French president Charles de Gaulle.
You can reach Douvres from Calais by ferry in a little bit more than 1 hour.
You can reach London from Lille by Eurostar in 1 hour and 30 minutes.



Picardy is located in the northern part of France and is divided by the rivers Somme and Oise. South of the region, at the border with Île-de-France, the area is booming due to the increasing inflow of Parisians relocating to the distant and greener towns of the Oise department. Here one can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside with the knowledge that they are not far away from Paris
The weather in Picardy is, cold, windy winters and mild summers with a regular cloudburst throughout the year.
The scenery of Picardy is dominated by agriculture, and the livestock farming. With beaches in the north, and fields in the south, this peaceful region has much to explore and enjoy.
The history and culture of this region is wide, and varied. It is where Joan of Arc was captured, and handed to the English. It is also home of many medieval churches and World War II battles.
Picardy also offers a choice of regional specialities. These ranges from cheese in the Thiérache region, to foie gras from Amiens. It also has “ficelle picarde” (savoury picardy style pancakes), Chantilly cream and cider.
From Paris, You can reach Beauvais in 1 hour by train.
